SANDAKAN, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun has called for the setting up of a national-level environmental education network to coordinate all related programmes and activities in the country.
Masidi said the network would allow for the effective, integrated and coordinated implementation of the programmes and activities nationwide.
"Programmes and activities which can address apathy towards the environment need the participation of all and should be implemented in a holistic way," he said at the Malaysia environmental education conference here Monday.
His text of speech was read out by his deputy Datuk Elron Alfred Angin.
Earlier, Forestry Department Director Datuk Sam Mannan said the setting up of the network would be among issues to be discussed at the six-day conference.
"I hope the network will become a reality in the coming years," he said.
About 150 state and federal department officers as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations attended the conference.
